HepCheck on May 19th

Are you infected?

According to the American Gastroenterology Association, 50 percent of Americans with chronic Hepatitis C Virus ( HCV), HepC, are unaware of their infection status and far fewer have received curative antiviral therapy.

The CDC recommends checking for Hepatitis C Virus HCV for all adults born from 1945 through 1965- The Baby Boomers.

We need to do even more in Indian Country.

Among American Indian and Alaska Native people, HCV related deaths remains more than double the national rate.

In Native American tribes, almost 50 percent of the people diagnosed with HCV were born after 1965.

We agree with the IHS and so at MPTN, we will be expanding universal screening for the Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) to all Native patients over the age of 18 years at least once in their lifetime, followed by guideline-based treatment, as appropriate.

Our excellent clinical pharmacists at the Pequot Pharmacy Network have a special medication management program to assist the physicians and patients with the most effective and higher value treatment for Hepatitis C.
